These past few days I’ve been doing some research on some companies for a business friend of mine. And some of these companies obviously do not want to be found: you put their name into google and then have to go on a hunt to find them! Not good if I was a potential customer. Unless someone is that determined, they’re not going to stick around searching through loads of entries, or googling different search terms to find you. Life is simply too short!
The companies that came up straight away and were very easy to find had a large profile on the right hand side of the search results page. These are the ones who have registered with Google Places. Their details come up with address, opening hours, phone number and some images related to the company. It’s also great for your SEO to have your business listed on Google Places.
And I’m ashamed to say that my own Google Places listing isn’t there either – so guess what I’ve been doing this week! (So, if you have registered, do double check that it shows up when you google your company name).
The great news is, if you haven’t got a Google Places profile, this is very easy to do – and free.
All you have to do is go to Google Places, using your normal google log in details. If you have used Google Analytics, Google Plus, You Tube or you have a Gmail address, you will have a log in (it’s the same for all of them). If you really haven’t, then it’s very quick and easy to register – just follow the links in Google).
Once registered, complete the online form, upload any images you want and click to complete.
Google will then send you a verification code in the post. This will take about two weeks to reach you. When you’ve got it, input that verification code back into Google Places, and ta-da! That’s it!
Easy peasy, and your potential customers can find you with no problem at all.
